D.C Adventures

We had a whirlwind of a weekend in D.C with my husband's side of the family but it was so much fun and I still cant believe some of the things we got to do and see. My brother in-law works on Capitol Hill and my sister-in-law works at the White House so between the two of them we had some pretty incredible experiences! If you don't want to read about what we did you can scroll to the bottom to shop what I wore throughout the weekend.
We kicked of our weekend with a private tour of the Capitol which included a visit to Speaker Ryan's balcony which over looks the National Mall and Washington Monument. We also got a peak inside GOP House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's office. One of my favorite Americana artists is Steve Penley and several of his works were in McCarthy's office. My favorite was President Lincoln which sits behind his desk. I also loved the gigantic painting in their meeting room called Delaware- the only way they could get it into the building was through a window! After our Capitol tour the cousins were able to visit Vice President Pence's office. We weren't allowed to take any pictures but it was incredible to see where he works and small details like his desk phone which has speed dials such as the Situation Room, Oval Office and Royal Crown. We were also planning on seeing the West Wing, but due to August Renovations, we weren't able to go in. We took a walk along the drive way and made small talk with some Secret Service guys!  We did get to visit the White House during after hours and were able to go bowling in the Truman Bowling Alley. It was a bucket list experience that I didn't even know should be on my bucket list! It was so much fun and to be in the same space as past presidents and congressional leaders was so amazing.
On Saturday we took a public tour of the White House and it was wonderful to get a peak inside such a historical house. If you're ever in the D.C area I highly recommend it!
We ended our weekend with Sunday Brunch and celebrating the life of Erik's Aunt and Uncle Monday Morning. They were laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery and it was a remarkable service. So incredible to see all the men and women who gave their lives for our country and it truly gives you a whole new perspective of how blessed we are to live in a country with such freedoms. This is another must visit place if you're ever in the area!

Wedding Wears with Bonobos

Wedding season is in full swing so I'm teaming up with Bonobos to share some outfit ideas for you and your man! Navy was my color inspiration and I loved the pop of soft pink against a traditional blue suit. This blazer and pants combo from Bonobo's Jetsetter line is perfectly slimming and can be worn to events other than weddings {say business meetings or dinner with your parents} The pants and shirt are Jetsetter Stretch which means they have extra give that wont make you feel stuffy or restricted {perfect for busting a move on the dance floor} and come in several colors. I added some fun ties to coordinate with the girls looks and a fun pair of Stubbs & Wootton shoes for some extra flair!
I've been obsessed with maxi dresses and midi skirts lately so couldn't help myself when I saw this skirt from Rachel Pracell and this maxi from J. Crew. I added some statement earrings and paired a feminin top with the skirt to complete the look. Nude heels were my go to because can you really go wrong with nude?! I always get asked if wearing black to a wedding is okay and my answer is- it depends... In the past I've worn black to weddings, but only if its a formal affair indicated on the invitation. If I find myself picking out a black dress for a semi casual or casual wedding I usually try to find something similar in navy. It all depends on the location and formality of the wedding, but when in doubt black is out.

Miami Swim Week {fave looks}

Sports Illustrated

Clarissa: Dress & Shoes / Michelle: Top, Denim, Shoes / Niki: Dress, Shoes, Earrings

It's been a week since we went to Miami and I'm finally sharing my favorites! I loved the Duskii show because the suites were so practical and I felt like you could wear them right off the runway. My other favorite show was Frankie's Bikinis because of how crazy their suits were {like this teddy bear bikini above... crazy right?!} I didn't want to look away from the runway because I was afraid I'd miss something insane! The Sport's Illustrated show was also a blast since it was the launch of their very first swimwear line which included plus sizes. We had front row seats for the show and got a pretty amazing swag bag too! {this Playa spray is amazing and these Diff sunnies are so cute and for a great cause} I linked some suites from each designer below including a few that were featured! Niki from The Andi's List is also sharing photos from the Gottex show over on her blog today. Check it out to see more amazing suits!

Swim Week

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer / Shoes: Lilly Pulitzer / Clutch: Louis Vuitton {similar} / Watch: Michele / Float: Sunnylife

For our first night in Miami we attended four shows and most of them were at the W Hotel including the pre party we attended hosted by Condé Nast Travel. Everyone was so nice and we loved mingling before our first show started. We also had way to much fun with all the Sunnylife floats they had in their private pool! Because most of our events were outside I wanted to wear something that wasn't too heavy or hot. This maxi from Lilly Pulitzer was just what I needed and the tassel detail made it the perfect party dress! Its light weight, breezy and lined so it's not see through like some other white dresses can be.

MIA Travel Look

Top: Lilly Pulitzer / Denim: Madewell / Shoes: Keds / Watch: Michele {face/band} / Luggage: Louis Vuitton

Just got back from a girls weekend in Miami for Swim Week and we had such a fun time! The shows were amazing and I cant wait to share my favorite suites with y'all! I rode over with Niki from The Andi's List and our friend Clarissa. I wanted to make sure I was super comfortable so I defaulted to my favorite jeans from Madewell and kept my look simple with a white tee from Lilly Pulitzer. I love this tee because its slightly longer in the back and not tight fitting like some other t-shirts can be {it also comes in two other colors}. I found these slip ons from Nordstrom Rack a few months back and couldn't believe how amazing they were. They're under $35 I love how I can wear them with anything. I packed everything in my Louis Vuitton luggage, meet the girls at Chick-Fil-A and we were off for a fun 2 days in MIA!
